The gatehouse immediately opposite the present entrance was originally built to give access from the lagoon. It now looks onto reclaimed land containing the new extension to the main cemetery, designed by David Chipperfield, and is rapidly deteriorating.  This was the main gate from the lagoon for many years. The plan is to restore the roof and make the construction sound, in order to use it for a presentation of the history of the cemetery. Erecting a temporary cover to slow down the deterioration is the first priority.
