How to get to the San Michele cemetery?

Go by vaporetto (water bus) nos 4.1 or 4.2 from Fondamenta Nuove vaporetto stop towards Murano. Get off at the first stop – San Michele. http://www.actv.it/sites/default/files/ultimamappa.pdf Or take the same vaporetti from elsewhere in the city or Lido. These are both circular routes so make sure you go on in the direction with the shortest distance. This depends on where you start from.

Where is the Protestant cemetery, the reparto evangelico?

The reparto evangelico is the section XV of the San Michele cemetery. As you leave the vaporetto stop at San Michele, just go straight ahead, passing the old monastery on your left side, and carry on further. The direction is well signed.

Where do I find specific graves?

There is a map on this website that indicates the graves of well known people.

Where do I find the grave of Joseph Brodsky?

Start from the gate and walk towards the centre of the cemetery. Then turn left, and walk towards the wall. You will find the grave on the right, before you reach the path along the wall.

Where do I find the grave of Ezra Pound?

Start from the gate of the reparto and walk to the centre of the cemetery. Then turn left, and walk towards the wall. The Ezra Pound’s grave is on the left, before you reach Brodsky’s, a bit hidden by the greenery.

How can I help?

There are several ways you can support our efforts to improve the condition of the Protestant Cemetery in Venice and shed light on its fascinating history.

Old photos tell stories and may contain valuable information for our work. If you have any of the Protestant Cemetery from before 1980, please send a scanned version to our email address: info@www.veniceprotestantcemetery.com

We are looking for relatives of people buried here before the II World War. If you are one, or know any, please send us contact details.

Restoration (work) and stewardship in general costs money. Please support our work, through either our American or Italian accounts. You find the donation buttons on the front page.
